Dr. Nord was, prior to becoming CMO at Medcan, a V.P., CMO at Unity Health Toronto, serving on the executive team, with shared accountability for clinical and operational aspects of the new merged organization. He was Site Lead for Providence Healthcare, with operational oversight of Laboratory, Pharmacy, Diagnostic Imaging, Risk Management, Quality & Safety, Outpatient Services, Infection Control and all Physician Staff oversight and support. He also had accountability for Academics and Research.
He is the founder of Stillbrook Accessible Retirement Residences, Inc., a registered charity focused on developing affordable retirement living communities for lower socioeconomic frail seniors across Ontario.
He co-chairs the Rehabilitative Care Alliance, accountable for improving the quality and efficiency of Ontario’s rehabilitation sector. He is also the provincial Physician Champion for ALC through the Cancer Care Ontario/Access To Care, and a key thought-leader in the area of improving patient flow and reducing “Hallway Healthcare”. As such, he is a member of the Premier’s Council on Improving Healthcare in Ontario.
Since 2004, Dr. Nord was the Attending Physician for a 35 patient Stroke/Neuro Rehabilitation Unit within Providence Hospital. He is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto, involved with teaching and research activities, and holds his FCFP designation.
Dr. Nord trained at McMaster University and the University of Toronto. He went on to hold senior leadership positions in the US with several health systems and was Medical Director for Anthem BlueCross for a number of years. From 1998 to 2000 he was also the President of The Flying Hospital, an international humanitarian relief organization, bringing care to vulnerable populations in third world regions.
