COVID-19 IgG ANTIBODY TESTING

Discover if you’ve been exposed to the virus that causes COVID-19

Medcan’s COVID-19 IgG antibody test, also known as serology testing, involves drawing a sample of blood to identify a type of antibody called immunoglobulin G (IgG)—a protein in the body that’s produced in the later stages of an infection. If you’ve been exposed to COVID-19, your body will typically produce this antibody.

It can take at least two weeks for IgG to fully develop in your system after exposure to COVID-19.

What will my test results reveal?

Your results may help identify if you’ve been previously exposed to COVID-19.

Unfortunately, there isn’t enough evidence at this time to confirm that people who have antibodies against COVID-19 are protected from future infections and, if so, for how long.

Unlike polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing (nasopharyngeal swab/saliva testing), which checks for the presence of the virus itself, an antibody test won’t tell you if you have an active infection.1

It’s important to understand that antibody testing should not be used as a basis for diagnosis2 or to determine if you can spread COVID-19 to others.

When can I expect to receive my results?

A COVID-19 IgG antibody Client Report with your results will be provided to you within two to seven days of your test through myMedcan, our secure online portal. Should you have any questions, a Medcan Nurse Consultant will be available to review your results with you.
