On International DNA Day (Wednesday, April 25, 2018), Medcan hosted a discussion on the causes of mental illness, how to support mental resilience, and understanding possible genetic links. While genetic testing to predict risk of mental illness is not clinically available yet, there are resources that help people and their families move forward constructively following symptoms or a diagnosis.

Members of the panel included:

  • Allison Hazell MSc, CGC, CCGC, Clinical Director of Genetics, Medcan
  • Angela Inglis Psychiatric Genetic Counsellor, Vancouver-based The Adapt Clinic, part of British Columbia’s Mental Health & Substance Use Service
  • Gina Di Giulio LLM, PhD, Clinical Psychologist and Director of Psychology, Medcan
