CMO (Chief Medical Officer) in-a-Box

Your dedicated Chief Medical Officer will provide guidance on strategic planning, occupational health and safety, risk management, pandemic response planning, benefits analysis and design, travel medicine, accommodations, and advice on specific employee files of concern. We will work with you to develop policies and procedures as it relates to illness and injury, mental health and workplace stress, substance abuse, disability management, and returning to work. Additionally, we will assist in designing and managing corporate plans and initiatives including but not limited to executive health, disability, wellness, mental health, critical illness management, and complex disease management.

Return to Worksite and In Person Events

We’ll help bring your team back to the worksite safely and assist with planning for upcoming gatherings and events. Our team of experts will assist you with policy development and review, site readiness walkthroughs, vaccine and mask exemption adjudication, 1-1 consultations for the vaccine hesitant, a vaccine education course with certification, employee vaccination certificate processing and review, and screening and COVID-19 testing (PCR, RAT, Antibody).

To meet your COVID-19 testing needs, we offer all common certified COVID-19 tests to assist in keeping your workplace safe – choices include Rapid Antigen tests, corporate PCR tests, and at-home test kits (Rapid Antigen or PCR). Additionally, use Medcan’s award winning Safe at Work screening app designed to help curb the spread of the virus.

Dr. Peter Nord

Chief Medical Officer and Senior Medical Consultant
Past CMO at Unity Health Toronto, and past CMO for Providence Healthcare, Assistant
Professor at the University of Toronto, co-founded the Institute of Sports Medicine and Human Performance, founder of Stillbrook Accessible Retirement Residences, Inc., led the development of Virginia’s first HMO, as Medical Director for Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Dr. Jason Abrams

Associate Medical Director and Senior Medical Consultant
Family medicine and emergency medicine physician in the Greater Toronto area and practiced in walk-in clinics in the community. Independent Medical Examiner for Section 44 assessments under the Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule, and a lower back expert physician examiner for the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB).

Dr. Alain Sotto

Associate Medical Director and Senior Medical Consultant
Occupational Medical Consultant for the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), Boeing, Pratt and Whitney, Bombardier, and CN. Chief Physician, Wellness Division, for Ontario Power Generation (OPG). Appointed as an examiner for the Canadian Board of Occupational Medicine and appointed by an Order in Council in the Ontario Parliament as Investigative Coroner for York Region.

Dr. Aisha Khatib

Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto’s Department of Family & Community Medicine. Staff Physician at St. Michael’s Hospital with experience leading the COVID-19 vaccine clinic at St. Michael’s Hospital as well as other corporate vaccination clinics.

Matthew Burnstein

Dr. Matthew Burnstein, BSc, MD, MRO, MICFP

Associate Medical Director and Senior Medical Consultant of the Medical Advisory Services Team
Dr. Burnstein has practiced family and occupational medicine for over 35 years. He has served as the Director of Occupational Health and Wellness for numerous employers and insurers including the Province of Nova Scotia, the Capital District Health Authority, Canada Post Corporation (Atlantic Division) and Bell Aliant (Chief Medical Officer). He has been certified as an Independent Medical Examiner, Medical Review Officer and is the Past President of the Occupational and Environmental Association of Maritimes. He serves as an adviser to companies in the legal, insurance and mining industries and is frequently asked to lecture on disability management and workplace wellness.

Leslie Beck, RD

Clinical Director of Food and Nutrition at Medcan
Leslie Beck is a registered dietitian and the Director of Food and Nutrition at Medcan where she works one-on-one with clients to help them achieve their diet-related health goals. She is recognized by the media as an authority on nutrition and food issues. She writes a weekly column in The Globe and Mail and is a best-selling author of 12 books on health and nutrition. Leslie is also a member of the College of Dietitians of Ontario and Dietitians of Canada.

David Macklin, MD

Clinical Director of Weight Management
David A. Macklin is a lecturer at the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine and a University of Toronto trained family physician. David has committed his career to the prevention and treatment of obesity; has for 16 years directed multidisciplinary, evidence based – behavioral weight management programs. He is the Medical Director of the Weight Management Program at the Medcan Clinic. He is also the Medical Director the Weight Management Program at the Toronto Mount Sinai Hospital High Risk/Special Pregnancy BMI unit. He is a Science Committee member at Obesity Canada (OC).

Dr. Jack Muskat

Clinical Director of Mental Health at Medcan
Organizational psychologist with significant consulting experience working with Fortune 500 companies. His clinical practice focuses on issues relating stress, anxiety, and depression, as well as interpersonal relationships. He offers a deep understanding of how workplace stressors affect personal health and well-being and provides clients with insights and tools to better function both at home and work. Dr. Muskat received his Ph.D. in Applied Psychology from the University of Toronto, and is a registered psychologist with the College of Psychologists of Ontario.
