Cardiovascular Risk Assessments
There are four tests offered in our Cardiovascular Risk Assessment:
Carotid Intima Media Thickness Test. Medcan is the first clinic in Canada to offer the Carotid Intima Media Thickness Test. By identifying the thickening of the artery wall as a result of plaque or fatty buildup, this test is a powerful predictor of heart attack and stroke risk. The procedure is painless, non-invasive and provides immediate results, so that preventive action can be taken if required. Anyone between 40 and 70 is eligible for the test; at-risk patients under 40 may be considered.
Advanced Cholesterol Test. The Advanced Cholesterol Test is one of the most accurate ways to measure cardiometabolic risk. The test examines 8 separate components of blood cholesterol to analyze your risk. Based on the results, your physician will customize and continually optimize your treatment plan to your cholesterol profile.
Echocardiogram. This non-invasive test uses ultrasound technology to assess your heart anatomy and function. It can identify weakness of the heart muscle, leaky or narrowed valves, which can increase your risk of a heart attack or cardiomyopathy.
Trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) Test. Elevated TMAO levels, which can be produced from digesting red meat, full-fat dairy, egg yolks and dietary supplements, increase your cardiovascular risk. This simple blood test measures your TMAO levels to detect if you’re at a higher risk of cardiac disease or major adverse cardiac event.
